Local Bank Lender Participates in Roundtable with Treasury Secretary

Community bank leaders from across the country met with the United States treasury secretary Wednesday to discuss the federal government’s financial response to the coronavirus pandemic’s effects — and North Texas had a seat at the table.

Vista Bank CEO John Steinmetz attended the roundtable discussion with Steven Mnuchin and Senator Ted Cruz in which they discussed regulatory relief for small businesses.

Community bank leaders gave feedback on how the Paycheck Protection Program played out across the country and why just a fraction of the banks that participated in that program have signed up for the Main Street Lending Program, Steinmetz said.

“I think one of the challenges that I mentioned was that there are a number of industries that have been, for whatever reason, excluded from the program that seem to be being impacted more than others — hospitality, restaurants,” Steinmetz said. “And those are staples in our community. So we wanted to ensure, that as Main Street Program kicked off or just with remaining monies left (in PPP), that we are able to assist those businesses that so many of us living in Dallas enjoy each and every day.”
